Hoi An cleans up environment!
About 1,700 people gathered to collect garbage and clear sewage systems in environmental campaigns launched in Quang Nam Province, and Da Nang and Can Tho cities yesterday morning 02-10-11.
In Quang Nam, nearly 500 volunteers from hotels, tourism companies, and schools in Hoi An city participated in the “Green Day: Eco-Tours without Plastic Bags” campaign jointly organised by Hoi An Eco tours, Victoria Hotel, and the local Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
They collected plastic bags and litter on a number of streets, on Cua Dai Beach, and in the coconut forest along the Truong Giang River.
In Da Nang City, the local Department of Natural Resources and Environment also kicked off a week-long campaign to dredge and clear the sewerage system in residential areas with the participation of 1,000 youths.
Meanwhile, 140 volunteers from Victoria Hotel, universities and a number of foreigners collected 7 tons of garbage along the Can Tho River as part of the “Green Victoria Day” campaign in Can Tho City.
First solar cell factory started construction!
The solar cell factory is one of the important projects contributing to Vietnam’s development and energy security, said Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai at the factory’s groundbreaking ceremony in Quang Nam Province on May 14.

The project has the designed capacity of 120 MW per year with a total investment of $390 million. Built on the area of 12 ha, the project is equipped with four modules and auxiliary lines based on modern technology.
The factory will create 1,000 jobs for local people and export all of its products overseas.The factory will produce equipments for a solar power generator in Vietnam.
Vietnam aims to have renewable energy accounting 5 per cent of the total energy structures by 2015 and raise it to 8 per cent by 2020, said the Deputy PM.
